What the law says

Distilled from fermented sugar cane juice, molasses or syrup in a rectifying or fractionating column; unless flavoured, has no distinctive character, aroma, taste or colour; residual sugar not more than 15 g/l (100 g/l if flavoured); at least 40% alcohol (35% if flavoured). Search text adds that granulated sugar may not be used.
