LiquorSA

About the archive

LiquorSA is an archive of drinks made in South Africa: wine, brandy, whisky, gin and other spirits, liqueurs, beer and cider, current and discontinued.

What a record holds

Every bottle record names its producer, category, region and the year it was first released, says whether it is still made, and lists its sources. Producers carry their ownership history, because brands in this trade change hands often. Categories quote the legal definition where South African law sets one, from the Liquor Products Act 60 of 1989 and its regulations.

Where the facts come from

Producer and brand websites, industry bodies such as the SA Brandy Foundation, the text of the Act and its regulations, company announcements and published reporting. Where sources disagree, the record says so in an archivist’s note rather than picking one.

What we do not do

LiquorSA sells no alcohol, takes no advertising from producers and is meant for readers aged 18 and over. Not for persons under the age of 18.
